The Da Vinci Approach: Unlock Your Creative Potential

Creativity is the key to problem-solving, critical thinking, innovation, and resilience. Every single one of us was born to create and innovate, and this class will help you reach your full creative potential to become innovators who solve the unsolvable and achieve the unachievable.

What You'll Explore:

  • Creative Outlets: Explore all the forms of creativity to find at least one that resonates with you. There's no need to be a pro, and you don't have to publish your work. You’re creating for YOU. No parameters, no wrong answers. We encourage each student to dedicate at least 20 minutes a day to developing their chosen creative outlets. Each week, you'll submit a sample of your work for encouragement and constructive feedback to help you grow and improve.

  • The Power of the Blank Page: Learn how creativity directly enhances our abilities to innovate unique solutions to our specific problems. I’ll draw from many personal examples from my own career to help guide you to build yours.

  • Real-World Application: Harness your creativity to tackle some of the world's toughest challenges.

How We'll Learn:

  • We'll come to class with our creative fires already lit, having spent a week creating "on the blank page."

  • We’ll build our Power Playlists, a collection of inspirational tools designed to help you understand and control your emotions for better self-mastery. By mastering our emotions, we can detect manipulation and "brainwashing," enabling us to think clearly and logically. There are many types of inspirational tools, and we'll explore them together. While we don't need to exercise these daily, we need to have these at the ready any time our emotions start to get in the way. Some examples include:

    • Outdoor activities like hiking, biking, and swimming

    • Competitive sports

    • Creative outlets such as crafting or baking

    • Journaling and creative writing

    • Listening to music

    • Reading inspirational books or listening to motivational lectures

  • We’ll define our endgame and do the research. With specific problems and challenges to tackle, we’ll first define in great detail the end results we’re hoping to achieve. Then, we'll use all the resources at our disposal to do the research and learn all we can about that problem or challenge.

  • We’ll hold discussions and debates in class to determine the strengths and weaknesses of any and all proposed solutions. With an emphasis on logic and critical thinking, these discussions will help students defend their positions and find real-world applications for their solutions.

For the past 30 years, the Da Vinci Approach has been the method I used to do impossible things in my life and career. Now that I've refined the process, I'd love to share what I've learned and mentor you in your journey. Our creative fire is bright enough to light any darkening sky, so let’s go fill it with our own constellations!
